Abigail has experienced both sides of the Wilson Hill Academy screen, first as a student and now as a teacher, and she knows firsthand that the online classroom is a powerful tool for learning languages. Abigail’s students learn to scrutinize their sentence translations, sing about personal pronouns and discover what pirates have to do with the passive voice. It is her hope that while her students study Latin, they will also learn more of Christ, the word made flesh and the author of language.

Although Abigail had studied Latin for several years, she did not fall in love with it (or languages in general) until she took her first online Latin class with Wilson Hill’s Joanna Hensley. Abigail was inspired to learn Spanish and Koine Greek as well, but Latin will always be her first love. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in liberal arts from New College Franklin and had the privilege of working with Joanna Hensley and the Wilson Hill Academy Latin department on a student teaching internship during the 2021–2022 school year.

After growing up in central Kentucky, Abigail moved just a few hours south to Middle Tennessee where she is a member at Cornerstone Presbyterian Church. In addition to languages, she enjoys reading, singing in choirs and performing and teaching ballet and other styles of dance.

Anna’s students can expect to be so engaged in Socratic discussion that they barely notice the time go by. By telling stories, she brings the past to life. Anna likes to include  lesser-known elements of the history of subjects—a “behind the scenes” account that intrigues students and sparks their desire to research beyond the classroom content. She loves cultivating a learning environment that centers on Christ and involves discovering the treasure of His wisdom.

Raised in the Texas Hill Country amid farming and ranching, Anna went on to earn a Bachelor of Interior Design degree from Texas Tech University, specializing in historic preservation and restoration. Along with working on historic design projects over the last twenty years, she followed her passion for training young minds and taught in public and private schools before homeschooling her three children full-time. Anna holds a Master of Arts in history from Liberty University and is nearing completion of her doctorate in history from Liberty University.

In her spare time, Anna works with museums and municipalities on archival and curation projects. She has presented on various Texas histories as well as the history of education, namely John Calvin’s influence on the American Founders’ education. Anna holds dear the reading of her Bible and the works of many favorite theologians. Her love for the theology of hymns has her listening to them daily. Anna’s family has gratefully been involved with Wilson Hill Academy since 2016. They have moved often over the years and now spend their time in the Texas Hill Country.

Although modernist texts can be difficult to read and understand, Annie brings literature to life in her classroom. Students leave Annie’s classes with the confidence and tools to tackle and understand any story. More than anything, Annie loves to help others learn how to look at the world around them and see that all truth is God’s truth.

As an undergraduate, Annie studied literature and philosophy at Wheaton College before finishing a B.S. in environmental science at the University of Oregon and a Certificate of Biblical Studies from Ecola Bible College. She also holds a master’s in Christian apologetics from Houston Baptist University, where her studies focused on C.S. Lewis and the great texts of the Western canon. For the last two decades, Annie has worked to reintegrate education and discipleship as she has homeschooled her three daughters and developed the Faith & Culture ministry at Christ Church Anglican in Austin.

A native Oregonian, Annie loves a good cup of strong coffee and to be in the mountains with her family whenever possible. She also especially enjoys black licorice, Jane Austen and spontaneous dance parties.

Becky finds joy in bringing math and science to life for her students through real world examples and demonstrations as often as possible. While teaching her students important content, she is also training them to evaluate their own work and develop effective study skills.

Becky is a homeschool mom and a military spouse. In 2004, she graduated from the United States Naval Academy with a Bachelor of Science in chemistry.  For two years she served as a chemist on active duty in the Air Force where she met her husband. After leaving active duty, Becky taught high school chemistry in California. Following the births of their three boys, the Ekholms decided to homeschool, and Becky continued to teach in various homeschool and hybrid school settings. The Air Force has given the Ekholms the adventure of living in six different states (and counting!).

“This class is making me love science!” — student of Mrs. Ekholm

Bill Peacock has been studying and applying theological and economic truths to his work in public policy for more than twenty years. At Wilson Hill, Bill loves using his knowledge and experience to help his students master important concepts of history, government and economics by first understanding the biblical foundations of those subjects. Starting with Genesis 1, his classes take a biblical, historical and philosophical approach to the study of government and economics. By the end of their courses, students are equipped to apply what they have learned about Scripture, people and principles to issues Christians face in society today.

Bill’s experience in public policy includes stints in the Texas Senate, Texas House of Representatives, Texas Department of Agriculture, Texas General Land Office and the Texas Public Policy Foundation. Bill graduated from the University of Northern Colorado with a Bachelor of Arts in history and a minor in philosophy. He also earned an MBA with an emphasis in public finance from the University of Houston. Bill is a native Houstonian, now residing in the Texas Hill Country with his wife, Kelly, and son, William, where they attend a reformed church. He and his family love Astros baseball.

“We spend a lot of time studying peopleboth the people who developed many of the principles that we study and the people who are in the midst of applying those principles (rightly or wrongly) today.”

Whether in history or composition, students in Mr. Donaldson’s class can expect wide-ranging conversations that highlight nuances of the topic under discussion. His immense curiosity is infectious, and he often reminds his students that it is not grammar that is boring, but most grammarians. Historical events come alive as Mr. Donaldson challenges the students to see the events and actors in context and to consider the many possible perspectives of eyewitnesses. Through class discussions and written assignments, students transition from “learning all the answers” to “grappling with important questions.”

Mr. Donaldson’s early college career at Austin College was focused on German and math before being interrupted by military service. He studied Russian at the Defense Language Institute and served in the US Army as a Russian linguist in Germany for over six years, including a year or so as an instructor in a joint-service cryptologic school. During that time, he completed his degree from the University of Maryland with a major in government and minors in history, Russian, German and math. After leaving the service, he worked on a master’s in Slavic linguistics at the University of Texas at Austin and Charles University (Prague, Czechoslovakia) before leaving school to pursue a career in software development and technology consulting. He and his wife, Nancy, were among the founding families at Regents School of Austin, where their two now-grown children were both educated. He served on the national board of the Association of Classical Christian Schools for almost two decades and currently serves as an elder at All Saints Presbyterian Church (PCA) in Austin.

At heart, Dr. Melton is a storyteller who emphasizes thinking and understanding. He brings the past to life by focusing on personalities and the flow of ideas, with the search for truth as a constant companion. In his classes, students enjoy unique content delivery with a heavy emphasis on discussion. His students can expect leadership opportunities and the challenge to consider multiple historical perspectives while tackling some of the biggest questions in history from a biblical worldview.

Dr. Melton hails from a tiny town in southwest Georgia called Ellaville. He attended Toccoa Falls College in the mountains of northeast Georgia, where he met his wife, Kami, and earned a degree in philosophy and religion. He then attended Texas Christian University to study Civil War history with Dr. Steven E. Woodworth. While there, he earned a master’s degree and doctorate in U.S. history with minor fields in military history and East Asian civilizations. He has taught for multiple colleges, universities and high schools since, full-time on-campus and online and has been published in the fields of Civil War and C. S. Lewis studies, also presenting papers on apologetics. From July 2018 until the COVID-19 crisis, he and his family lived in the village of Skórzewo, just outside Poznan, Poland, where he taught academic writing and integrated studies in the Faculty of English at Uniwersytet im. Adama Mickiewicza w Poznańiu. After an adventurous return to the states, he once again resides in his hometown, where he plans to settle permanently.

The Meltons have two daughters and, while in Poland, added a son to the family. They recently welcomed their second son into the fold. They all love the outdoors and sharing adventures together.

Carrie has a passion for teaching and takes great joy in her students asking thought-provoking questions, experiencing “light bulb” moments with difficult concepts, and discovering truth while exploring the beauty of God’s creation around them. While they conduct rock and mineral identification tests on unknown specimens, build a seismometer out of household items, model weathering with sugar cubes and chalk or research a mountain range and build a hand-crafted model, her students not only master important scientific concepts, they also learn to appreciate how character affects the life of a scholar.

Born and raised in the charming New England town of Wolfeboro, New Hampshire, Carrie was homeschooled from grades four to twelve. She went on to study elementary education at Liberty University where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in general studies and a teacher certification. Her first teaching position was with a classical Christian school in Bedford, Virginia, where she taught first grade for seven years. Carrie went on to serve in ministry and teach English as a foreign language for ten years in Bandung, Indonesia.  She returned to the United States in 2016 and taught fourth grade at a classical Christian school in Naperville, Illinois, before making a final move back to New Hampshire in the summer of 2020.

Carrie loves traveling, learning about other cultures, reading, rockhounding, looking at the stars and taking leisurely walks down by the lake.

Daniel believes that students who develop an appreciation for the culture of a language will become more excited about the process of learning it. He has learned that culture and communication cannot be separated and that a key part of learning a language must involve learning about the culture of the people as well. Through his education and experiences—he lived in Thessaloniki, Greece, for nearly six years and now lives in Southern Mexico, near Acapulco, with his wife, Lety—Daniel has developed a sense of wonder for how God works in the world, connecting us to one another. He hopes that his students will also develop that same sense of wonder through their study of other languages and cultures.

Daniel was born in Mississippi and grew up in the Boston, Massachusetts area. He completed his Bachelor of Arts in political science before earning his Master of Divinity and doctorate in theology from the University of Thessaloniki, Greece. While studying in Greece, Daniel developed a great interest in studying and teaching foreign languages. Since that time, he has acquired four language certifications, become proficient in Modern Greek and Spanish, and developed reading proficiency in Koine (New Testament) Greek.
