Story of History: Making of America
The Story of History series covers the flow of history from Bible times through the 20th century, providing students a backdrop against which they can better engage the Great Conversation. Grammar School students get to know the heroes, villains and key events of the period using both biographies and selected works of historical fiction as well as nonfiction narrative histories (where available).
Early America comes to life as students in this course trace the path a collection of British colonies follow to become a powerful new nation. Students learn to view history through the lens of a biblical worldview and consider how God uses events and people to change culture. Through the development of attentive listening, close reading, thoughtful interaction and other study skills such as reading maps and building timelines, students prepare well for subsequent Bible and history courses.
Topics include: the British colonies, the American Revolution and how it contrasted with the French Revolution, the early development of the United States, Westward Expansion, the War Between the States, growing industrialization during the latter part of the century, and America’s eventual emergence as a leader on the world stage.
