Story of History: 20th Century
The Story of History series covers the flow of history from Bible times through the 20th century, providing students a backdrop against which they can better engage the Great Conversation. Grammar School students get to know the heroes, villains and key events of the period using both biographies and selected works of historical fiction as well as nonfiction narrative histories (where available).
20th Century America comes to life as students in this course explore the United States at the end of World War I to the development of the modern world at the end of the century. Students discuss how Marxism, communism and capitalism shaped nations as well as understand the reasons for the Space Race, the fall of the Berlin Wall and what happened on 9-11. Through the development of attentive listening, close reading, thoughtful interaction and other study skills such as reading maps and building timelines, students prepare well for subsequent Bible and history courses.
Topics include: the end of World War I to the development of the modern world at the end of the century; how Marxism, communism and capitalism shaped nations; the Space Race, the fall of the Berlin Wall and 9-11.
